FOUR GLIMPSES OF OUR FUTURE
Temple Sinai has committed, skilled and caring leadership and sound financial management. These, combined with our close-knit community and beautiful sanctuary, give us a strong foundation for the future. Here are four programs we are planning for that future:
SUMMER CAMP/ISRAEL PROGRAM FOR YOUTH
There is clear data showing that the best guarantee for a Jewish future is when our youth attend Jewish summer camps and/or go on extended learning experiences in Israel. Temple Sinai wants to make these experiences central to our youth’s Jewish education, and those that attend would bring back their enthusiasm to the community. The camps and programs are expensive, but well worth the investment in the next generation.
ZIMRA – JEWISH MUSIC PROGRAM
We are living through a blossoming of new Jewish music in America and Israel, particularly in Reform Judaism. Building on the success of our in-house rock band, Dahg, we want to work with local musicians to make Temple Sinai a Jewish music hub.
DIGITAL TORAH – BUILDING THE 21ST CENTURY SYNAGOGUE
As recent events have made clear, our synagogues must learn to include new modalities and virtual approaches to Jewish education, worship, and connection. As Reform Jews, there are no restrictions on our use of technology to reach young Jews and those at a distance. We hope to expand our web-presence, improve our digital content, and use social media to build Jewish community beyond those currently affiliated.
MANNAH – FEEDING THE HUNGRY
Temple Sinai has been active in Meals on Wheels in Burlington, particularly on Christmas Day, and we are part of the new local South Burlington Food Shelf. We also have worked closely with Hunger Free Vermont to effect food policy in our area. Building on this, we want to make addressing food insecurity in our area central to our mission, our school, our holidays, and social action. We have already begun a raised-bed school garden for growing organic vegetables to donate.
